Rhythm Badal
How can we come together during this time of divisiveness? Jukebox Therapy is a platform for the Wake Forest Community to add hip-hop music to add to a collaborative playlist. As we grapple with the emotional, physical, financial, and systemic consequences of the pandemic, hip-hop music can offer a source of healing, joy, and reflection. At its core, hip-hop music is built on values of social and political justice, respect, self-worth, and community enjoyment. The artist has constructed “juke”boxes and installed them at Hearn Plaza, the Benson Center, and Farrell Hall. Students, faculty, and staff can access this playlist by visiting the installations and scanning the QR code. From here, the audience is invited to engage in an online experience, where they are asked to recommend a song, listen to the playlist, and learn more about the project. Possibly, we can unify the campus and the community through music.
