Community.
By Camryn Sofronski
Hanging upon the light posts that line the Scales Fine Arts Center is Community. - a public work comprised of portraits of three students with three campus experiences that are unique to them. Each portrait accentuates and gives a face to the connectivity running throughout the student body community and our individual experiences. Community. is meant to encourage its audience to ponder on what the WFU Community means to them. And, with the subjects of the portraits wearing masks, it also asks the audience to consider how their definition of community has changed due to COVID-19.

The purposeful ambiguity of the work plays upon the student body’s personal knowledge and past experiences; each person will have a unique perspective of community that they will be asked to confront. Students, faculty, and staff can share their reactions and personal statements by scanning a QR code; they will be directed to a website that simultaneously curates these testimonies and acts as viewable collection. Through sharing, reading, and contemplation, we together can come to a greater understanding of our multi-faceted community, and what Wake Forest truly means to each other.
